What an epic game we have to look forward to! On Saturday, 24 May 2014 Paarl’s well known Brug street fields of Paarl Boys high will be the stage of one of the great Inter-schools games of the season .
These two old bastions of tradition and
legacies will yet again compete for the ultimate victory. Both Grey College Bloemfontein as well as Paarl Boys High are schools with exceptional pride and much renown traditions.
Between the two of these schools a total 59 Springboks were brought forth.
Saturday might also surprise us with new faces and possible stars of the future. With the fierce competition, high standards and new players hungry for success will most definitly put up their hands to excel to new levels.
Quite a few Springboks emerged from Paarl Boys high, in the likes of Corne Krige and Carel du Plessis were all once part of this young rivalry…
Some interesting facts about Paarl Boys High and Grey College:
- Grey College had 6 representatives in the 2011 Rugby World Cup Springbok team in New Zealand – Jannie du Plessis, Bismarck du Plessis, Frans Steyn, Ruan Pienaar, Heinrich Brussow, and CJ van der Linde
- Paarl Boys High (1868) and Grey College (1855) are amongst the oldest schools in South Africa
- Grey College and Paarl Boys High first played each other in 1950 and did not have a regular fixture every year due to the distance between the two schools.
- Grey and Paarl Boys High (also known as Boishaai) played each other 21 times from 1950 up to 1995 and since then it became an annual fixture. In total they have now played 39 matches with Grey having won 31, Paarl Boys won 6 and 2 Draws.
