Simon Hickey

SIMON HICKEYAt just 19-years-old, Simon Hickey already has two seasons of ITM Cup rugby with Auckland under his belt as he joins the Blues Wider Training Group in 2014.

Captain of both the King’s College 1st XV and 1st XI, Hickey was a New Zealand Schools rugby representative and also won the Gillette Cup player of the year twice (the mark of supremacy for high school cricket in New Zealand).In his first year out of school, Hickey was named Auckland Club Rugby Player of the Year and made his Auckland debut. He was the first choice first five-eighths for the New Zealand Under 20 team at last year’s Junior World Championship and was named 2013 Auckland ITM Cup Player of the Year. Hickey will be a genuine option at 10 although the Blues are looking at him to play a utility role and have the option of covering halfback.
